PTA E-Notice 25 July 2011

Dear Member,

We would like to share with you an event – Transform your parenting paradigm - 绝不怕孩子输在起跑线上 organized by Congress 360.  Please see information below from the organizer:
_________________________________________________________________________________________________
On 3rd Sept 11, Congress360 will again shift the education paradigm of another 1,200 participants.  Many parents and teachers are at a lost on how to help their children and their weakest students in this new era. Their attitude towards the child can make an important impact of their life.

I am excited to share this event (Transform your parenting paradigm – 绝不怕孩子输在起跑线上) because Zhou Hong (speaker) has changed the fate of his daughter who is born deaf and also millions of children around the world. His concept has now implemented in many schools in our surrounding countries including Korea … but unfortunately not in Singapore yet. Schools that adopted the concept see tremendously improvement in student’s result and teachers’ quality. The schools have since received number of awards from their country’s authority.

Zhou Hong has the way to help all of them and there are 3 ways that you could get involve:
1.    Come yourself and get an insight of what Prof Zhou Hong is all about,
2.    Enrol your teachers to the event, or
3.    Share the event with all your school’s parents (we can provide the flyers for distribution).

I will be really happy if I can share with you over the phone about Prof Zhou Hong. Feel to call me at 92779916.

Watch a short extract of April 11 event in Singapore Expo. Click www.congress360.com.sg.

REAL LIFE STORY FROM A PARENTING EXPERT
HE WILL BE IN TOWN ON 9 and 10 APR
Prof Zhou Hong is just an ordinary father but was asked to be principal and consultant for schools and government agencies
He is no stranger to many parents, teachers and principals, MOE, Harvard U….
He is the author of National Best Seller “Appreciating Your Child” and sold in millions,
His book has 7 pirated copies circulating in the market,
He uses 20yrs of his time to raise a deaf daughter to a PHD student of Boston Uni,
His daughter speak like you and me,
He was a major contributor to “I m Not Stupid II” movie,
His talk is full of emotion,
His experience is real and is not from academic study,
He was interviewed in thousands of media about his miracle in raising his
 daughter.

Do not miss this time to equip the parents of your school. Today, we have gotten more than 15 schools supporting this event. Many parents called us thanking us for letting them know about the talk through their school and they get very special rate from us. Please help the parents to change their old parenting method through the real story from Prof Zhou Hong.

5 years ago, more than 1,500 audiences comprise of parents, teachers, and principals attended his talk in Victoria Theatre.  More than 99.5% gives a “Thumb-Up” and commented that it was a seminar not to be missed!
I will be very much appreciative if you could help us by just giving out our information leaflets to all the parents. Please free feel to contact me at 97630728.

Visit to www.congress360.com.sg and watch the 2 videos there. Many have already benefited from these videos.

Regards,
Eric Lim, Founder | Congress360.com.sg

So much has been said about work, it is time to talk about holiday.
Have you plan your year-end family holiday yet?

Our teachers would like to invite you and your family to join them in a CIP Trip to Cambodia in Nov/Dec. The dates are 27 Nov to 6 Dec 2011. The mission of the trip is to do some basic infrastructure work such as changing wooden window hinges in a village school in Phnom Penh.  You may also assist in conducting English lessons for the children in a learning centre.  Do not be worried or overly concerned over the hard work, if you’re not physically fit, you can always help in the teaching of English lessons in the school / learning centre. Please note that this is on a first-come-first-serve basis and vacancies are limited to first 10 families responded.
Attached are Photos and proposed itinerary of the trip (there have been changes in terms of lodging.  It will be in a hotel). The cost of the trip depends on which airline we will be taking – Jetstar will be around $1100 per person and Silkair will be around $1350 per person. The cost covers the lodging (hotel), air tickets, food, travel insurance, land transport – literally everything except your shopping expenses.

Lastly and most importantly, we have to raise US$10,000 for the building costs for this CIP project in the Cambodian school. We wish to pool our resources together to get as much donations as possible (the excess donations could be used to buy the stationery and other necessities for the students in the school etc).   More information can be obtained from Mrs Nancy Lum at soh_siew_hong@nyps.edu.sg

The last item is for all members with P5 child.  The PTA is inviting the Math Department to conduct a Math Workshop for our P5 Parents.  Details are in the letter attached.  For members, please email us at rsvp.nypapta@gmail.com for online registration to ensure a seat early

PTA E-Notice 17 April 2011

Dear Member,

Friday was the NYPS-PTA.  It was the closing of a successful chapter and the beginning of a new journey for the PTA Committee.  We would like to thank all the committee Members who have stepped down and welcome the new Members onboard.  Those stepping down were:  Mr. Benjamin Pwee, the President since 2007, Mrs. Sally Lee, the Second Vice-President, who had served the PTA before the PTA was officially registered as a legal entity (25 years); Mrs. Phyllis Tan, since 2001, Ms. Chng Seo Ping, since 2005; Ms. Christine Tow, since 2007; Ms. Qwek Wei, since 2005, Mrs. Angeline Teo and Mrs. Suan Yeh, both since 2009.  They have left behind a strong legacy and a sturdy “ship” for the new PTA Committee to continue to pilot.

I have been elected to the post of Second Vice-President; therefore, this is the last time I am writing to you via E-notice as the Head of Parent Resource.  However, the E-notice culture is in good hands and will continue.  Mrs. Sandra Koh will be heading the Parent Resource team.  Many members have provided feedbacks that they are happy with being kept informed of the PTA activities via E-notice.  Sandra has lined up programs which the Parent Resource team will roll out soon.  I hope you will give her the same full support as you have given me.

I would also like to thank all the parents who have expressed interest in joining the Sub-Committees.  The numbers were encouraging.  Please continue to let us know your “hidden” talent and passion.  Once the direction of the new Committee has been set, Sandra will contact parents who have expressed an interest.

I would like to urge you to come for the Coffee Break with the MDA on May 3 (Details can be found below).  The activity is free for all Members and the timing is just nice for you to pick up your kid(s) after the event.  Please make your reservation at  rsvp.nypspta@gmail.com  :-)

Thank you for your support in the past 2 years.  I am looking forward to serve you better in my new capacity.

Best regards,

Filona Hang
